State Taxes Deptt imposes a penalty of over Rs 2 crore for GST-related violations

SAMBA, April 6: The Enforcement Wing Samba of the State Taxes Department has imposed a penalty of over Rs 2 crore in GST-related violations during the financial year 2023-24.

Deputy Commissioner, State Revenue Enforcement (Samba), Jammu, Sanjay Gupta informed that the Enforcement Division, Jammu South, which has jurisdiction over Samba, Rajouri and Poonch districts, witnessed an increase of 53.65% in the penalty recovered of tax violators during the last financial year in 254. cases of various offenses intercepted under the GST Act/Rules. Moreover, the number of e-way accounts verified by the Enforcement Department also stood at 2,84,433 in FY23-24, which was 47.2% more than the previous year.

He stated that enforcement teams have increased their probity in examining the documents required to be carried while carrying goods in transit under Section 68 and Rule 138 of the GST Act/Rules. Gupta further informed that the enforcement teams are monitoring and patrolling highways and important points round the clock. He said J&K has witnessed substantial growth in GST collections in the financial year 2023-24, exceeding the national average, reflecting the impact of our enforcement activities.

“In an effort to expand the tax base, enforcement actions and inspections of businesses were also carried out in Samba, Rajouri and Poonch to identify taxpayers who had crossed the threshold for obtaining mandatory registration required under the GST Act. Various business entities were identified and notices were issued to them in accordance with relevant provisions of the GST Act,” he added.
