Ahmedabad: In a significant crackdown on tax evasion, the state GST department’s investigation branch has unearthed a staggering Rs 57 crore in suspicious transactions across multiple water parks in key districts, including Ahmedabad, Navsari, Gandhinagar, Himmatnagar, Kheda, Banaskantha and Rajkot.

Conducted earlier this week, the extensive investigation targeted malpractices within business-to-consumer (B2C) entities. The probe uncovered widespread irregularities in various water parks, ranging from unrecorded sales and rentals of swimwear, lockers and mobile covers to cash transactions devoid of proper documentation.

Furthermore, restaurants operating within these establishments were found to be involved in cash sales of raw materials without proper invoicing procedures.

SGST officials found that QR code scanners were being misused for accepting payment for resort and room rentals. These funds were often diverted into personal accounts of employees and their relatives rather than the company’s bank accounts.
