Rs 13cr GST fraud: Court denies bail to trader, orders probe against taxmen
Gurgaon: A local court denied pre-arrest bail to a businessman accused of a Rs 13 crore GST fraud by claiming input tax credit (ITC), saying the fraud could not have been done without the connivance of govt officials.
The fraud came to light during an inspection in 2021. The court has now directed police to initiate a probe against tax officials. Police arrested a person named Vikas in April in connection with the fraud.
Vikas gave a disclosure statement naming Ritesh Garg as a key person in the fraud. Garg sought bail last week, which the court rejected on June 14. Garg said in his bail application that he was neither named in the FIR nor was any act attributed against him.
He added that custodial interrogation should not be required since he is ready to join the investigation.
