Rajasthan set to pioneer faceless GST tax administration
JAIPUR: Rajasthan is set to become the first state in the country to implement a system for faceless/randomised tax administration. The finance department's new initiative will enable automated scrutiny of tax returns for all 5.50 lakh GST taxpayers, covering 100% of the category.
The system allows taxpayers to perform self-scrutiny to correct discrepancies in their tax submissions. Previously, the state examined returns from 30,000 to 50,000 major GST taxpayers only, accounting for merely 5% to 10% of the total.
Project will be implemented in Jaipur, Jodhpur in pilot phase A software is being developed to implement the system, an official said. With only 704 officials available to review GST returns across the state, the new system will ensure accountability and transparency. In the pilot phase, the project will be implemented in Jaipur and Jodhpur.
In her 2024-25 Budget speech, deputy chief minister Diya Kumari had promised to implement a phased system of faceless management in commercial tax and excise departments to ensure better compliance to the principles of clean and transparent administration.
