More than 60 suspicious GST registration cases flagged
Indore: More than 60 suspicious cases of fresh Goods and Services Tax (GST) registrations in Indore district were identified by the system in little over a week and were directed to the newly established biometric-based Aadhar authentication suvidha kendra for in-person verification of the applicant, a mechanism designed to eliminate fraudulent registrations.
In Indore, a commercial hub, an average of 15 applications for new GST registration is submitted daily. From the total online applications received for GST registrations, the system, based on preset parameters, flags 'High-Risk' cases requiring biometric authentication at the centres.
The attendance of applicants categorised as 'high risk' at the suvidha kendra is approximately 20-30 per cent, according to officials from the GST department. "The system has flagged more than 60 high-risk cases in the past week, and these cases were directed to the Suvidha kendras for completing all mandatory procedures to obtain fresh registration.
The attendance of applicants in this category is quite low, merely 20-30 per cent, as only legitimate applicants present themselves whilst fraudsters avoid appearing," said an official from the Central GST department requesting anonymity.
