Modi’s guarantees lack substance, time for accountability: Congress president Kharge
Jobs for the unemployed youth and women, including apprenticeship worth Rs 1 lakh per year in the first job; social security for gig workers; a start-up fund of Rs 5,000 crore, law against paper leak in recruitment examinations; and work on removing the “GST burden” on essential commodities — these were some of the promises that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge made Wednesday as he launched the door-to-door distribution of the party’s Guarantee Cards in Northeast Delhi’s Usmanpur.
“GST is applied on every commodity — from head to toe, we are all burdened with GST. High taxes are being levied even on essential commodities… Farmers, too, bear the brunt as essential farming products are subjected to hefty GST… we will alleviate this burden by working towards the removal of such taxes,” said Kharge as he distributed pamphlets on the Congress’s “Paanch Nyay Pachees Guarantee” aimed at addressing concerns of youth, women, workers, farmers and communities.
Alleging that the present government at the Centre does not fulfil its promises, Kharge said, “Modi’s rhetoric about guarantees lacks substance. Despite promising employment opportunities, we are yet to witness results… his pledge to uplift farmers by increasing MSPs (Minimum Support Price) and doubling their profits remains unfulfilled. It is time for accountability, not empty assurances.”
