NEW DELHI – The Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police has recently made a significant arrest in connection to a major GST fraud scheme.

The suspect, Shashi Kant Gupta (56), a resident of Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended on Sunday and is facing charges of forgery and criminal conspiracy. This arrest comes after the authorities received a complaint lodged at the EOW, sparking an investigation into the fraudulent activities.

The illicit scheme, which involved fake firms and fraudulent billing totaling Rs 14.80 crore, was brought to light when Chartered Accountant Rajiv Jain reported the unauthorized use of his PAN card to register a GST number for a company named M/s Madhu Enterprises. Jain’s discovery led to the revelation of fraudulent transactions conducted using the registered GST number in 2019.

The arrest was carried out by a dedicated Delhi Police team, led by Inspector Dharmendra Kumar and supervised by ACP Ghanshyam, following a crucial tip-off. This significant development underscores the ongoing efforts to combat financial malpractice and uphold the integrity of the GST system.
