Karnataka clocks 15% GST growth; CM Siddaramaiah bats for higher mop-up
Bengaluru: Karnataka's GST collection is growing at 15 per cent, second after Maharashtra, with the state having mopped up Rs 13,772 crore in November, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was informed during a review meeting on Tuesday.
Siddaramaiah, who is also the finance minister, reviewed the commercial taxes, excise, stamps & registration and mines & geology departments. Karnataka has collected Rs 53,103 crore in commercial taxes against the target of Rs 84,475 crore this fiscal. In the previous fiscal, the state had collected Rs 70,575 crore in commercial taxes.
Siddaramaiah directed officials to undertake a special drive for the next four months to expedite tax collections in order to meet the target. Noting that the Malnad and Mysuru regions have not done well in meeting the commercial tax collection targets, Siddaramaiah asked officials to buck up.
According to data, between April and November this fiscal, the government has collected Rs 11,823 crore through inspection, audit and dispute resolution. This figure was Rs 4,975 crore in the same period last year.
Hic-hic hurray Siddaramaiah was told that the excise department has collected Rs 23,600 crore against the target of Rs 38,535 crore, which is 61 per cent. However, compared with the April-November period last year, the government has collected Rs 1,432.23 crore more this time.
