Patna : The GST Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) has fixed June 30 as the deadline for filing appeals against GST orders passed before April 1, 2026. No appeals will be accepted after the portal closes, GSTAT Bihar Vice-President Manoj Shankar said during an awareness programme organised by the Bihar Industries Association (BIA) in Patna on Tuesday.

Addressing industrialists, traders, tax professionals, and taxpayers, Shankar stated that GSTATs are now operational across the country. He urged eligible taxpayers to file their appeals well before the deadline to avoid last-minute difficulties and technical issues.

Technical Member Sanjay Kumar Mavadiya informed participants that around 16,500 appeals have been filed before GSTATs nationwide so far. However, Bihar has recorded only 210 appeals, despite having a significantly larger number of eligible cases.

BIA Secretary General Amarnath Jaiswal said the business community had high expectations from the newly constituted tribunal. He expressed hope that GSTAT would ensure fair and time-bound resolution of disputes between taxpayers and tax authorities.

Judicial Member Manoj Kumar Sinha highlighted that the tribunal would adopt a taxpayer-friendly approach. He also noted that a dedicated help desk has been established to assist taxpayers and tax professionals with filing-related queries and issues.

Assistant Registrar Rajeev Kumar Pandey explained the e-filing process, documentation requirements, and fee structure. He stated that the filing fee is 1% of the disputed amount for every Rs.1 lakh involved, subject to a minimum fee of Rs.5,000 and a maximum fee of Rs.25,000.

During the interactive session, BIA representatives raised concerns regarding challenges in the e-filing system. These included word limits on submissions and the requirement to translate GST orders issued in Hindi into English before filing appeals.
