HC asks Centre to detail steps for GST tribunal
Panaji: The Bombay High Court has directed the Union finance secretary to file an affidavit detailing the steps taken to allot premises for the GST Appellate Tribunal in Goa.
The tribunal has already been constituted but is yet to become operational due to the absence of designated premises.
Earlier, on April 1, the high court had issued a notice to the Union finance ministry seeking details on measures taken for setting up the tribunal.
The court observed that the non-functioning of the tribunal affects the statutory remedy available to taxpayers and the revenue authorities.
A division bench of Justices Valmiki Menezes and Amit Jamsandekar directed that the affidavit be filed within the stipulated time.
