GST inspector in Maharashtra held in Rs 10,000 graft case
Mumbai: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), on Thursday, arrested a state tax inspector of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Department for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from an applicant seeking a GST registration number.
The accused has been identified as Sandeep Khalate, posted at GST Department Nodal-7, Mazgaon. According to the ACB, the complainant applied online for a GST number and was allegedly asked by Khalate to pay Rs 10,000 for processing and issuing the registration.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB's Worli unit. Subsequently, a trap was laid on Wednesday. Khalate was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount of Rs 10,000 from the complainant.
