GST imposed on registered post and courier services
These services are now subject to a total GST rate of 18%, comprising 9% for Central GST and 9% for State GST, with the shares evenly distributed between the central and state governments. GST had previously been introduced for Speed Post services sometime ago.
With the new ruling, a registered post (weighing up to 20 grams) will now cost Rs 26, earlier it was priced at Rs 22. From now on, one will have to spend Rs 30 for sending acknowledgement cards, earlier it would cost you Rs 25. Registered posts (weighing up to 40 grams) which were earlier priced at Rs 27, will now cost Rs 32. Similarly postages weighing up to 60 grams will now cost Rs 38 instead of Rs 32.
Among other postages, taxes have been imposed across 27 departments encompassing book packets, unregistered parcels, service money orders, post box and registered news paper, hence the charges will increase accordingly.
