GST collections rise 8.2% in March 2026 to hit Rs 1.78 lakh crore
India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections rose to Rs.1.78 lakh crore in March 2026, registering a growth of 8.2%. The increase reflects improved economic activity and better tax compliance.
Gross GST collections for the month crossed Rs.2 lakh crore, showing an 8.8% rise compared to the same period last year. Domestic revenue grew by 5.9% to around Rs.1.46 lakh crore, while import-related revenue saw a sharp increase of 17.8% to about Rs.0.54 lakh crore.
Refunds during March rose by 13.8% to approximately Rs.0.22 lakh crore. After adjusting for refunds, the net GST revenue stood at Rs.1.78 lakh crore.
For the full financial year 2025–26, gross GST collections increased by 8.3% to over Rs.22.27 lakh crore, while net collections grew by 7.1% to Rs.19.34 lakh crore.
State-wise data showed mixed trends, with industrial states contributing significantly, while some regions recorded slower growth. Overall, the data indicates steady consumption, improved compliance, and a stable economic outlook.
