GST Blow: Maharashtra Authorities Slap Rs.6.92 Crore Tax Demand on GSK Pharma
New Delhi: GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals Limited (GSK Pharma) has received a tax demand order ofRs.6.92 crore from the Maharashtra GST authorities for the period April 2022 to March 2023.
The order was issued by the Additional Commissioner, CGST & Central Excise, Mumbai Central, raising a total demand ofRs.6,92,76,478. This includesRs.3,46,38,239 as tax and an equivalent penalty ofRs.3,46,38,239, while the interest amount has not yet been determined.
According to the company’s disclosure, the demand relates to alleged non-payment of tax on export of services. The order is dated 17 February 2026, and the company stated that it received the order physically on 20 February 2026, as it had not yet been uploaded on the official portal.
GSK Pharma further clarified that the demand is not expected to materially impact its financial operations. The company said it will take appropriate legal or administrative action in response to the order.
