FTCCI urges Telangana govt to raise GST registration threshold to Rs 40 lakh
(FTCCI) has called on the Telangana government to increase the GST registration threshold from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 40 lakh, aligning with other states in India.
FTCCI President Suresh Kumar Singhal emphasised that Telangana remains the only state maintaining the Rs 20 lakh limit, urging the government to address this long-pending demand, particularly to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
The demand was raised during an open house interactive meeting on GST, organised by FTCCI's GST & Customs Committee on Monday. The event featured senior officials, including Sandeep Prakash, Principal Chief Commissioner of CGST & Customs, Hyderabad Zone, and Syed Ali Murtuza Rizvi, Principal Secretary (Revenue) and Commissioner of Commercial Taxes, Telangana. Representatives from 15 industry associations, including CREDAI, Bulk Drug Manufacturers Association, and Telangana Builders Federation, participated.
Singhal reiterated FTCCI’s plea to raise the GST registration threshold to Rs 40 lakh, urging Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Finance Minister Bhatti Vikramarka to act promptly.
Responding to concerns from the Telangana Iron and Steel Manufacturers Association on Reverse Charge Mechanism (RCM) for scrap purchases from unregistered vendors, Sandeep Prakash advised due diligence in vendor selection to avoid compliance issues.
Addressing delays in GST refunds raised by the Engineering Exports Promotion Council (EEPC), Rizvi assured expedited processes for faster disbursements. Industry concerns over vehicle detentions at border areas were acknowledged, with officials promising remedial actions to prevent financial losses. On monthly reminders to file returns and Input Tax Credit (ITC) reversals, Prakash clarified that these are intended to enhance compliance.
