FIR filed against GST officer in DA case
Chennai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a second First Information Report (FIR) against a superintendent of GST and Central Excise department on charges of accumulating disproportionate assets worth Rs.20.40 lakh.
The officer, identified as K.N. Annadurai of the Dharmapuri range, was earlier booked in 2024 in a bribery case along with another GST inspector. They were accused of demanding Rs.5 lakh as bribe and a monthly payment of Rs.10,000 to clear GST dues of around Rs.1.5 crore for a private firm.
During the earlier investigation, searches were conducted at his residence and other properties, where several documents were seized. Scrutiny of these documents revealed possession of disproportionate assets.
According to the FIR, his assets increased from Rs.42 lakh in 2019 to Rs.1.2 crore in 2024, while his total income during the period was Rs.78 lakh and expenditure was about Rs.65 lakh.
The FIR also stated that he made cash purchases of home appliances and received gold, silver, and bronze articles as gifts.
Based on the evidence, the CBI sought approval from the Tamil Nadu government to register a separate case. After receiving consent in March 2026, a fresh FIR was filed and further investigation is underway.
