Due to the rise in fraudulent websites targeting exporters through phishing techniques, the industry has sought the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) to take actions against it.

Confidential data is being collected by these scam website posing to be official registration portals.

One of the online scam website is https://www.online-iec.org/update_iec, and the phishing message said “Dear IEC Holder, Reminder: Your IEC is deactivated due to not updating prior to Feb 01, 2022. To reactivate, apply herehttps://online-iec.org , ignore if done.”

The Importer-Exporter Code (IEC) is a key business identification number which is mandatory for Exports or Imports, and no person shall make any import or export except under an IEC Number granted by the DGFT.

Hence, for exporters an IEC is imperative and significant for their business.
