The Directorate General of Foreign Trade ( DGFT ), vide Public Notice No. 44/2023 dated February 22, 2024 notified the suspension of specific Standard Input-Output Norms ( SIONs ) outlined in Annexure “A,”. This suspension comes into force on April 01, 2024.

Stakeholders have the opportunity to request the reinstatement of these norms by March 15, 2024, if they have been inactive for the past five years. Those interested in reviving any SIONs slated for suspension are encouraged to submit their appeals via email to “dgft@nic.in”  by the same deadline.

Standard Input-Output Norms ( SIONs ) are set standards created by DGFT in India. They determine the amount of inputs needed to produce a certain quantity of output for particular products or industries. SIONs are essential for international trade as they offer a uniform system for evaluating import-export transactions, simplifying the process for businesses involved.

SIONs generally specify the allowable amounts and varieties of raw materials, components, consumables, and other inputs utilized in the manufacturing process to create exportable goods. Additionally, they detail the associated export product and its quantity.
