BHEL wins GST case with Rs.31-crore tax demand quashed
State-run engineering firm Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) on Tuesday (September 2) said it has received a favourable order from the Commissioner, CGST (Appeals), Dehradun, in a matter related to goods and services tax.
The order dated June 30, 2025, and received on September 1, 2025, was passed in favour of BHEL, quashing the appeal filed by the department. The case pertained to a show-cause notice issued on December 26, 2023, under Section 73 of the CGST Act, 2017, involving a demand of Rs.31.20 crore along with applicable interest and penalty.
The matter related to the financial years 2018-19 and 2020-21. The Joint Commissioner had earlier dropped the show-cause notice, and the department’s appeal against that decision has now been set aside.
BHEL stated that the favourable order has been accepted by the company and no further action is required. The order has no impact on the company’s financials or operations.
