Dehradun: Sleuths of Goods and Services Tax (GST) department uncovered a tax evasion case involving Amric Solar Energy Pvt Ltd, a Haridwar-based firm which manufactures high-quality batteries. The company has been accused of not paying around Rs 5 crore in taxes by falsifying the GST amount on their invoices.

According to GST officials, the company deliberately misrepresented solar power tracking systems in their invoices to strategically reduce GST from 28% to 12%.

“Assets valued at Rs 1.9 crore have been provisionally seized,” said Sunita Pandey, joint commissioner of GST. Amric Solar manufactures solar panels, charge controllers, and supplies batteries. Under GST, solar power generation equipment is taxed at 12%, while batteries are taxed separately.

Officials said the company would ship batteries with power tracking systems but only deliver batteries, returning the tracking systems to be resent with other battery shipments. Pankul Sharma
