Assam Police Seize Two Tobacco Trucks in Bongaigaon Over Suspected GST Evasion
Assam Police carried out a major operation in Bongaigaon district and seized two trucks loaded with tobacco over allegations of GST evasion and missing transport documents.
The operation was conducted by Manikpur Police after receiving specific intelligence inputs about suspicious transportation activities in the area.
Police officials said the raid was led by Officer-in-Charge Jayanta Kakati along with Gerukabari patrol outpost in-charge Hriday Goswami. During the checking operation, the police stopped two trucks carrying large tobacco consignments.
The seized vehicles were identified by registration numbers AS01 SC4447 and AS01 SC9093. According to officials, the trucks were travelling from Dinhata in West Bengal and were heading towards Nalbari and Nagaon districts in Assam.
During inspection, the drivers reportedly failed to produce important transport and tax-related documents. After this, the police took both trucks into custody for further investigation.
Authorities suspect that the tobacco consignments were being transported in an attempt to evade Goods and Services Tax (GST).
The incident has once again highlighted the strict monitoring being carried out by Assam Police against illegal transportation and tax evasion activities on state highways.
Police officials said the investigation is still going on and more details may come out after further questioning and document verification.
