60cr GST fraud: 2 held

AHMEDABAD: City crime branch on Thursday arrested Ismail Khokhar of Bhavnagar and Aamirkhan Pathan, a resident of Sarkhej for Rs 60 crore fraud in the filing of GST returns. Daksh Patel, 22, a resident of Gota, in his FIR with DCB (detection of crime branch) on Wednesday said that he had hired Pathan as an accountant in Sept 2023 and gave him his ID and password to file returns for his human resource business.

Pathan allegedly reset the ID and password and linked them to his own number. He later sold the ID to Khokhar, who was earlier caught in another GST fraud case. Using Patel’s ID, Khokhar and his aides carried out bogus billing and tax evasion. Acting on this, the state GST department sent a notice to Patel to pay a penalty of Rs 60 crore in Nov 2023.
