Important news for those who eat Idli, Dosa, now you will have to pay more GST on instant flour mix

Now you will have to spend more money on food made from instant flour mix including Idli, Dosa. Actually, a decision has been taken to impose 18 percent GST on food prepared from instant flour mix including Idli, Dosa and Dhokla and Khaman.

According to the official sources, instant flour mix including Idli, Dosa and Khaman does not come under the category of Sattu, so 18 percent GST should be imposed on it. Actually, Gujarat-based Kitchen Express Overseas Limited had knocked the door of Appellate Authority for Advance Ruling against the decision of GST Advance Authority, in which the petitioner had said in his petition that the company sells flour mixture of Gota, Khaman, Dalwada, Dahi-vada, Dhokla, Idli and Dosa in powder form and argued that it is similar to Sattu and GST should be imposed on it at the rate of 5 percent.

However, the Gujarat Appellate Authority for Advance Ruling (GAAAR) dismissed the petition, saying that the ingredients used to make 'instant flour mix' do not fall under the category of sattu and GST rules. The Gujarat Appellate Authority for Advance Ruling also said in its order that merely because the end consumer of instant mix flour is required to follow certain food preparation processes before consuming such products, there is no basis to say that 18 per cent GST should not be levied on it.
